Call for Submission and Participation

 

Participants and submissions are welcome for a workshop entitled “Methodology for Measurement of Learning in Learning Analytic” to be held in central Sydney from 9 am to 5 pm on 6th March 2018, in association with the Learning Analytics and Knowledge Conference 2018 (LAK18).

Who can attend and/or present:

Participants are sought who can provide input related to themes including:

  • improving trustworthiness, validity, reliability, utility and interpretability of analytics used in assessment and measurement of learning

  • using big data or other new analytics methods to develop metrics for learning or other learning related constructs

  • standards of proof used to verify the utility and interpretability of findings

  • assumptions about the nature of learning

  • how learning is detected and understood

  • what the term ‘measured’ means

  • data adequacy and modelling

 

A synthesis of discussion in the workshop from discussants and participants is expected to provide a framework for the ongoing development of ‘measurement analytics’ as a field.

 

The process for registering to be part of the workshop is as follows:

 

Step 1:

Flag an intention to submit by emailing measurement-analytics@unimelb.edu.au as soon as possible. The Workshop Committee will answer any queries you may have.

 

Step 2:

If you wish to present a paper, please submit an extended abstract (of no more than one page) by 18 December 2017. The abstract should provide sufficient detail for a reader to understand the particular learning metrics being developed, the purpose and intended use of the metrics and the methodological approach you taken to developing them. All presenters will have 15 minutes to present.

 

Step 3:

Advice will be distributed about acceptance of papers for workshop presentation by 7 January 2018.

 

Step 4:

Register for Conference and Workshop. Early bird registration closes on 9 January 2018 so we suggest you register by then.

 

Step 5:

Come to the workshop on 6th March!

Review process

All abstracts will be reviewed in a single-blind process by the Workshop Committee which comprises of staff members from the Assessment Research Centre, The University of Melbourne, Australia:

Publication

Accepted workshop papers will be included in the Companion Proceedings.

Important timeline for the submission and application process:
  • Submission deadline - 18 December 2017.

  • Notifications of acceptance - 7 January 2018 (in time for early bird registration for LAK18, deadline of 9 January).

  • Final form of accepted workshop papers must be submitted by 30 January 2018.
